Is Hoodia Gordonii Harmless?
Hoodia Gordonii has not proven to be harmful to the people consuming it in its natural form. For centuries the San Bushmen, living in the Kalahari Desert, have eaten Hoodia Gordonii to suppress their appetite and face the scarcity of food and water in the harsh desert region. During their long period of usage of this succulent, the felt no adverse effect and it proved to be very useful for them in just not warding of thirst and hunger but also to cure diseases.
Phytopharm the pharmaceutical giant which holds the paten right to Hoodia Gordonii conducted a clinical study on morbidly obese people. Half of the people in this study were given a placebo, the other half were given Hoodia. The results of the test showed no harm caused by Hoodia on the people who were given Hoodia.
However, there is a point of caution to be followed. It is not advisable for pregnant and nursing mothers to take Hoodia Gordonii as they need to provide as much nutrition as possible for their child. Though there are no studies conducted on this, it is best to avoid taking Hoodia under such conditions.
