  1. “Hoodia” is the generic name for a family of flowering plants resembling cactus which has 13 different species in it. These are grown in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
  2. Only one of the “Hoodia” species namely, “Hoodia Gordonii” has the appetite suppressing property. No other Hoodia species have this ability.
  3. In the researches it is proved that, only one molecule in Hoodia Gordonii Plant called “P57″ has appetite suppressing quality. No other molecules in the plant can control hunger.
  4. The only active molecule “P57″ that is proved to suppress appetite is neither in the leaves or flowers nor in the root of Hoodia Gordonii plant. This can be found only in the core or aerial stem of the plant.
  5. The active molecule P57 can not be separated from other molecules and encapsulated as it is against the patent right. It took the South African national laboratory 30 years to isolate and identify the specific appetite-suppressing ingredient P 57 in hoodia gordonii. When they found it, they applied for a patent and licensed it to UK drug company Phytopharm. Later they found it unfeasible to a manufacture diet pill with only P57 and gave up.   6. This led to powdering of Hoodia Gordonii Plant’s core or aerial stem to manufacture Hoodia Gordonii pills. The active ingredient “P57″can range between 0.1% - 0.45% percent of such pill. Remaining part of the pill has nothing to do with suppressing appetite.
